The Tunis is a breed of sheep that is both a witness and survivor of monumental American history. During the Civil War, when the Yankees were slaughtering southern livestock needlessly, a lone man concealed a flock on his land, saving the breed from extinction. While our country was caught in a maelstrom of violent turmoil, this gentle sheep was preserved amidst the musket smoke and the sound of cannon fire. The Tunis is an illustration of survival.
